What is the Mission for The Attic Film Fest?
The Attic Film Fest’s mission is to support and empower Independent filmmakers to spread Christ’s message through film. It is our sincere prayer that the films screened will honor Christ and His message of forgiveness and love for all and bless those watching them.
What are the themes used in the film selction process?
TAFF is looking for quality films that explores, explains, or exemplifies the Gospel of Christ or whose film examines redemptive themes of the Bible (such as self sacrifice, forgiveness, etc.).
This can be done in a variety of ways. The film does not have to be openly evangelical but should have the Gospel at its core. The kinds of redemptive films we are looking for are ones that have themes of forgiveness, unconditional love, sacrifice, self sacrifice, honor, loving your neighbor, selflessness, etc.- themes of how Christ lived and how Christians are to live their lives.
How can I Participate?
TAFF’s desire is that you feel part of this film fest. So, we ask for your participation. This festival is a competition. We wish to support the filmmakers in their important work. Therefore we offer cash awards for each competition category. You, as an audience member, can help decide the winner of the AUDIENCE FAVORITE AWARD.
Additionally, let us know if you’d like to be part of the TAFF Team. Click here to see a list of the open opportunities on the Team.
Finally, TAFF exists solely through the generous donations of its sponsors and donors. Click here to get more information about being a sponsor, or click here to make a donation to The Attic Film Fest. Remember, all donations are tax deductible.
Who is eligible to compete at TAFF?
TAFF welcomes any filmmaker to compete who has a film that explores, explains, or exemplifies the Gospel of Christ or whose film examines redemptive themes of the Bible (such as self sacrifice, forgiveness, etc.).
Describe the selection process for the festival?
There are a series of steps in the selection and award process.
In order for a film to be selected, it is first reviewed a selection committee. Each film is watched in its entirety by members of this committee to assess the film from a thematic and production quality standpoint. Films that pass this filtering process are passed on to a jury of judges comprised of professional filmmakers and producers. To avoid any bias or outside influence, the members on the judges panel are kept confidential until after the festival is over. At that time, should a judge choose to announce his/her position, that is a decision left to each individual judge.
There are 2 groups of cash awards given out – those selected by the judges to be the best in the category or discipline (Best Feature, Best Short, Best Cinematography, etc.) and those selected by the TAFF Board of Directors (Rising Star of Bethlehem Scholarship given to a student filmmaker, TAFFY award for the film that best communicates the Gospel, etc.)
What are the Statement of Beliefs for TAFF?
At TAFF, we believe in the one true living God, that Jesus was God’s only son, born to be the savior and redeemer of all. Jesus ministered, performed miracles, sacrificed Himself, suffered and died on a cross, to pay for all of human kind’s sin. We believe on the third day after His death He was resurrected. We believe He is alive and wishes relationship with every person of this Earth. He is real, He is here, and He loves each and every one of us. It is our mission to find films that tell His story and the story of redemption for all.
What is the ‘TAFF Rating System’?
The TAFF rating system is a bit more stringent than the MPAA ratings at your local movie theater. Our ratings are:
Can you describe ‘Festival Etiquette’?
When arriving at a screening room to see the next film, we ask that you do NOT enter until the previous film’s credits are concluded. Please be as quiet as possible while waiting to enter. And of course, please put your phones and pagers on silent mode while films are screening. We thank you in advance for your cooperation in this! And we are sure the filmmakers do, too.
What is the purpose of the ‘Warning Labels’?
We take our responsibility to provide suitable quality Christian films very seriously. We also wish to be as up front as possible about the content/language of the films selected for the FEST while still providing the best possible films. Sometimes these films push the boundaries of what Christian films are perceived to be. At TAFF we are not afraid of this. Christ’s message of love and redemption is for all. Some films will have content that is very difficult. At TAFF we weigh each film’s content against the impact it may have for Christ. Therefore, sometimes it is necessary to place a warning label on a film that pushes these boundaries. Please heed and respect these warnings as they are there to inform and protect.
